Who We Are
The wisdom to redesign oppressive systems already lives in our people.
Our mission is to cultivate the structures, strategies and narratives for liberation to take root in Black, Indigenous & other communities of color.
We are co-creating a world where joy, justice and self-determination are everyday realities—a world where all of our needs are met and our communities are resourced for thriving.
What we’re about
The name Freedom Dreams is an intentional homage to the work of Dr. Robin D. G. Kelley and his visionary book, Freedom Dreams: The Black Radical Imagination. We first encountered Kelley’s text in the summer of 2020, amid the George Floyd uprisings on Turtle Island. First published in 2002, the book is both a historical reflection and a blueprint for possibility—a reminder that to transform the world, we must first dare to imagine one worth living in.
Our foundation stands on this belief. We see freedom dreaming not as metaphor, but as method—a practice that demands study, strategy, and struggle, alongside radical hope. As Kelley wrote, “...without new visions, we don’t know what to build.”
